Periphery:Clear

My favorite band of all time, people love em, people hate, em it's Periphery. They're releasing new material called "Clear" which they said wasn't an EP nor is it a replacement for their full-length album titled "Juggernaut". This release will have songs written by everyone in the band, Spencer, Nolly, Matt, etc, etc. Not really looking for to the new VoM and the new BOO album was meh(Chelsea Grin is looking up, though, I'll get on that tomorrow, lol.) Anyway, the preview for each of the musicians songs that are on the release will be below. Nolly's and Spencer's will probably be my favorite.

Have A Blast(Periphery) vs Becoming The Dragon(Trivum)

So me and my friend were having a pretty deep discussion about Metal. And he popped the question "Hey, what's your favorite solo?" I automatically say "Have A Blast's Solo" and he says Trivum's Becoming The Dragon. I haven't heard that song, but omg, it was pretty damn good. The Song itself is pretty good "THIS DRAGON WILL RISE AND BE KING", gets me everytime. I got into Trivum around the Slogan days and never got to the 7th song on The Crusade (Whoops...lol.) What do you guys think which song has the better solo? I think they're both pretty good.

INMYOPINION- Of Mice & Men:Restoring Force - You're Not Alone

Of Mice & Men is releasing their third album called "Restoring Force". They recently released an single called "You're Not Alone". The song was DECENT, and honestly, it was nothing more. I was disappointed, but I was prepared to be. First of, the song doesn't really sound like the OM&M we all know and loved, or hated, now of course they said they weren't going to be the same, Austin's vocals suck now, Arron Pauley(Ex-Frontman of Jamie's Elsewhere) was completely wasted in this single. Of Mice & Men's new single doesn't even sound like metalcore it sounds hard rock. I understand band's will evolve, that's nice, change happens, but I don't wanna hear Hard Rock from a band that's released two pretty darn good metalcore albums, it showed they had potential to be good. In My Opinion - They should have broken out of the generic metalcore sound and made something lyrically(I'l get to that in a second) and instrumentally inspiring. For a LOT of people this song did no such thing. The lyrics in this song are VERY cliche handing you feels in a cup sort of lyrics, it has a message at the very least, so I guess I'll give them points for that. But as a lyric writer myself(I'm In A Band) I would've delivered this lyrics in a deeper and more intelligent way. That isn't what they were meant to be do, I get that. Overall the single was boring and a HUGE disappoint to a lot of people. I'm not going to deem the album a flop yet, but I'm only expecting to be disappointed even farther.

All Shall Perish

All Shall Perish is a 5 piece deathcore band. I just recently got into these guys and then the lead vocalist goes and joins Suicide Silence, lol. They're a pretty good listen Eddie is a pretty darn good metal vocalist too, his words are clearer then some metal vocalist and pretty heavy at the same time. I've been listening to A Pure Evil, Procession Of Ashes and Black Gold Region. I've been listening to both albums but I find myself repeating those songs the most.

Deftones

Deftones is by no means "underground", but I figured I'd cover them...because, who doesn't like Deftones? Not really much to say about them besides they're an above average band, um, Chino can sing, the band can play their instruments really well. I didn't really know what to blog about today. So enjoy this classic.

A Lot Like Birds

A Lot Like Birds is a post-hardcore...or I dunno. These guys are pretty amazing, though. Kurt Ex-Vocalist from  Dance Gavin Dance is in the band. Their new album isn't pretty "heavy"...not heavy in metal terms anyway. They released the most beautiful album I've heard all year, honestly. It isn't really metal, it's a soft and poetic type of album. I love it, great lyrics, wonderful musicianship and it all comes together so well. My favorite song has got to be "Shaking Of The Frame". I had to blog about these guys, because this is some of the most poetic music I've heard for awhile, it paints such a image in my head. When Vocalist Cory is yelling out vocals and lyrcis such as: "Like frantically rifling through all of your keys.
There's no wind behind you but something's moving the leaves." or "Although we left in a panic,
I took a look back at the house,
saw it turn on its axis and vanish.
The dust enveloped the sky, the splinters fell to the earth,
swam deep in the soil and came back to life.
It survived! It survived! It survived."

I can feel the passion in his voice. I can only imagine what the band put into this album, I can tell a lot of thought and emotions were but into it. They aren't really metal and this album isn't really hardcore, but if you're open minded I'm sure you will be able to appreciate this album for what it is. I'd seriously suggest checking these guys out.(Not really sure why this part is showing up as copy and paste, but I did type this part out. Only above are the lyrics.)

After The Burial

After The Burial is a 5 piece "djent" or progressive metal band. After what Sumerian says 3 years of no new material they've released a new single "A Wolf Among Ravens". It's a pretty decent song, but I find their old stuff better. it's groovy, the tone is great and it has a pretty tight solo in the song. The solo and the outro has to be the best part for me. If you like bands such as WhiteChapel, Winds Of Plague or Intervals then these guys are probably right up your alley.

Protest The Hero:Volition

Protest The Hero released their 4th or 5th album named "Volition". I haven't really listened to much of it yet. But the first 3 songs are pretty tight so far. The first song named "Clarity" starts the album off pretty strong. Protest The Hero has been one of my favorite progressive metal bands for awhile. Their melodies are JUST so good and pleasing to MY ears. I haven't been disappointed by the first 3 songs and i'll listen to the rest later this week. I'd tune into this album.

Thousand Foot Krutch

Thousand Foot Krutch is a 3 piece christian rock act from Canada. I haven't listened to these guys in forever. I listen to a few of their albums whenever I'm bored or just need something refreshing to listen to. They're a pretty good rock band, decent lyrics, decent instruments and they're a good listen if you're into rock. They have 8 albums, 1 remix album and I believe don't quote me on this, 1 or two live recording albums. Songs I suggest are "New Design", "Move", "Hurt" and "Quicken."

I See Stars: New Demons

I See Stars is 6 piece Post-Hardcore band with dubstep, electroni-core and strong pop influences. I See Stars recently released their 4th album called "New Demons". If you have an open mind, and tolerance for higher vocals, dubstep and breakdowns...and pop...you'll like ISS. I personally like some pop artist, high vocals and if you don't like a great breakdown here and there...what are you listening to Hardcore bands for? Anyway, I haven't got any chance to really listen to their new album. I've only heard one song from the album. It was pretty good, Post-Hardcore wise anyway. I'd check em out. If you like Crown The Empire, Pop Music, Skillirex, BARE or Falling In Reverse.

Monuments

I don't know to much about Monuments. Besides they're a 5 piece progressive metal band. These goods are pretty good. I suggest listening to the songs "Denial"(feat. Spencer Sotelo), Blue Sky Thinking and Admit Defeat. If you like Periphery, Veil Of Maya, Twelve Foot Ninja or Volumes, you'll enjoy these guys. Check em out.

The Color Morale: Know Hope

Summary: TCM tries to break from the generic post-hardcore sound.

The Color Morale is my favorite band in the hardcore genre as this moment. But Know Hope was a disappointing album, after hearing "We All Have Demons" which was a great post-hardcore album and "My Devil In Your Eyes"...I was underwhelmed by Know Hope. Know Hope isn't a bad album at ANY means, but boring after the first two listens while songs from We All Have Demons and My Devil In Your Eyes, "Demon Teeth", "The Dying Hymn" to this day have me hooked with it's great breakdowns and catchy choruses. Know Hope tries to break away from the generic post-hardcore sound, and it does, but it lacks that punch or catchiness the other two albums. Now, the lyrics, this is what makes these guys my favorite band in this genre. Garret Rap has been through a lot like MOST of us, and he let's it ALL out in this album. The harsh vocals are no longer growls but more fry..ish vocals or sometimes just plan yelling, this takes awhile to get used to because the TCH had such great harsh/distorted vocals and cleans for the genre, In my opinion of course. The album starts off with Burn Victims which is in my opinion is probably the most exciting song on the album. Then Smoke & Mirrors is a another good song for maybe like 3 listens...I shortly got bored. The lyrics are good, not their best, but they're good. "Sometimes it's good to build up walls, not to keep anyone out" is VERY cheese, which is why I say the lyrics aren't at their best. They were a ton better in the last albums. But this album is not a bad listen if you're  in to post-hardcore. 6.5/10

Suggested Songs:
|Burn Victims:
 Smoke And Mirriors
Silver Lining

Protest The Hero

Protest The Hero is a 5 piece progressive metal band from Canada. Protest The Hero mixes powerful opera like vocals with some crazy fast riffs, amazing sweeps, fry vocals and not your average timing signatures. The Vocals on this album are VERY comparable to Spencer (Periphery) Bryce(Heartist) Dennis(Affiance) or Elliot Coleman. Album's Fortress and Scurrilous are good a VERY good listen. If you're a fan of Tesseract, Periphery, Killswitch Engage, Affiance. Then I'd check these guys out.

Dance Gavin Dance:Acceptance Speech

Dance Gavin Dance is a...well, I don't know what genre to call DGD. I'm gonna with Post-Hardcore. They recently released an 11 song album called "Acceptance Speech" from Rise Records. If you keep up with DGD you'll know they've had to vocalist back to back (with the exception of Jon Mess who stayed) Kurt and Johnny are no longer in with DGD. They recorded this album with a Tillan Pearson. Tillan is pretty good, he fit right in with DGD. BUT, if you dislike higher pitched singing you....probably won't like the change...but Jon is still there!(Lol). Anyway, the Album was 11 songs. Thebeginning song  "Jesus H.Macy" starts off with Jon Mess throwing down some pretty tight vocals, shortly Tillan comes in and it's BEAUTIFUL, this guy fits SO well. The instruments are top notch as you expect from Dance Gavin Dance. The Second Song was a single, which I'm not gonna get to much into. The 3rd song is Acceptance Speech this song starts with Verse's with Jon and decent instruments, I like the bass and drums A LOT in this song. My only problem with this album, is Tillan's voice can annoy you after awhile, though, I do enjoy this album and his voice a lot, I just can't stand it for to long. Overrall, Dance Gavin Dance has done it again. Check this album out. 8/10.

Attila

Atilla is a piece deathcore band signed to Razor & Tie records. These guys just don't care. And they make it really obvious and known throughout their lyrics. They believe that a lot of heavy music is "to serious" and that people need to remember to not care and have some fun. YOLO(Lmao.) These guys make some pretty heavy jams. Their new album "About The Life" mixes regular Attila sound with some ignorant rap lines, some pretty decent riffs, growls, yells, screams, and the rapping unlike in "Falling In Reverse"(The joke of the industry) it doesn't sound forced at it. It actually fits the band and everyone who knows Attila knows they always had the rapping aspect anyway. I love these guys for the sound. I might be a buzz killer but I believe in having fun is a SAFE way, that doesn't hurt you or other people, so I can't honestly relate to their lyrcis like I would be able to with the "The Color Morale" or "Memphis May Fire". But the instruments and growls are heavy enough for me to be into these guys. If you like "Chelsea Grin", "WhiteChapel or Thy Art Is Murder, you'll enjoy these guys.

Suicide Silence WILL CONTINUE.

I logged onto Facebook yesterday to found out the Suicide Silence will continue as a band. Regardless of the ignorant people who are saying they need to change the band name because of ONE guy. Yes, Mitch was a good vocalist, but he was 1/5 of the entire band. No one wants to listen to a guy screaming "That Makes You A Slave" with no good music behind it. Mitch was great, but I can't really feel sorry for the guy, being that great man that he was, he made a mistake, a stupid one he was told NOT to make. Drinking and driving is dangerous as hell, not only can your live be taken, but you could take the life of someone else. Their families will suffer, and in this case will yours, it sucks. I wish he was still here making kickass heavy metal, but he's not. We need to move on, and honor his legend.  From what was said, his wife tried to stop him from making a silly mistake, Mitch Lucker choose to die. I feel bad because we lost SUCH a great vocalist, but more importantly a little girl has to go without her father. -End Of Rant. But, I'm SUPER glad to hear Suicide Silence will continue to make music. The new vocalist sounds pretty gnarly. The rumor: I dunno if this is confirmed but the new vocalist chosen is apparently Eddie from "All Shall Perish". They remixed you "Only Live Once" with the new vocalist and in my opinion, it sounds HEAVY, to say the least. So get stoked! One of the best bands in the new generation of metal is still up and kicking. Video Above, enjoy. Tell me what you think.

Heartist

Heartist a 5 piece Post-Hardcore band who were signed to RoadRunner Records in 2012. These guys are a pretty solid hardcore band. Yes, they're generic, but they do generic pretty good(If that makes sense.)  Their Extended Play "Nothing You Didn't Deserve" was released from RoadRunner in 2012 having a total five, six if you "stole it off the internet, the extra song being "Tangled". The lead singer Bryce is AN AMAZING vocalist. Dark Growls and Screams to an amazing voice that can reach notes I can ONLY dream of hitting, the melodies will remind you of Periphery right away. The Song "The Answer" and "Disconnected" show of the bands talent. They have some pretty decent riffs, fret board tapping here and there. Check em out. If you like Periphery, The Word Alive Or Killswitch Engage, I'm SURE you'll like these guys.

Affiance

Affiance is a 5 Piece metalcore band from Cleveland, OH. The band is currently signed to BulletTooth Records. These guys are pretty tight, they aren't your typical verse, chorus, verse, breakdown band. But they're STILL Metalcore. Affiance brings melody to metalcore.(:P) Powerful Singing (Some distorted vocals here and there. Their first album "No Secret Revealed" released from BulletTooth Records is a pretty solid CD. It's heavy enough for metalheads(IMO). The songs I suggest you listen to from these guys are "Call To The Warrior", "The Hive", "Classed Dismissed and "You Will be Replaced". If you're a fan of Killswitch Engage, Protest The Hero or Periphery you'll enjoy these guys. Check em out.

The Dillinger Escape Plan

These guys are a technical or progressive metal band. The Dillinger Escape Plan is signed to Sumerian Records and recently released their new album called "One Of Us Is The Killer" from Sumerian. The Dillinger Escape Plan are amazing with their instruments...like, they play with weird timing signatures...just awesome. But the reason I decided to do these guys today was because of they stage performances, which is INSANE. These guys put on quite a show. They throw amps...bleed, jump from places that the average person would know better to not jump, toss over drum sets, stab drum sets. It's JUST insane...spit, everything you can probably think of. These guys can actually play the music they make, they keep it interesting, though. I personally think it's boring if bands sound exactly the same as on the album. I could just stay home and listen to the album to buy, unless of course I want to go out and support a band by buying merch. I'm off topic, anyway..CHECK...these...guys out, if you haven't already.

Trivum

I found these guys awhile back in 2011 when I was looking for decent metal bands to listen to...was tired of hardcore bands. I do like hardcore bands, but everyone who listens to Hardcore knows...it can BE very repetitive at times. I needed a breath of fresh air, then I found Trivum. Trivum is a 4 piece metal band from Orlando, Florida. These guys have some pretty awesome tunes. I found myself head banging and stooping in my bedroom, so of course I enjoyed them, A LOT. The Songs that stood out to me were "A Grey So Dark", "Built To Fall"  and "In Waves. If you're a fan of As I Lay Dying,  Children Of Bodom or DevilDriver, you'll enjoy these guys, or if you're getting a bit bored with the typical hardcore bands, give em a listen. You won't be disappointed.

Falling In Reverse: Fashionably Late

Falling In Reverse released a sophomore album this summer called Fashionably Late. The album mixes pop, punk, rap, hardcore and little bits of metal even. The first song on the album "Champion" is what FIR is known for (besides the lead vocalist being an idiot, hardcore music, with Ronnie letting out some pretty decent vocals. The song is pretty decent, something I could've jammed to for awhile...but THEN..at 2:13 of the song.. Falling In Reverse goes into a rap section, something new..to say the least. This part sounds pretty forced in and kills the entire song for me, altogether. The Next Song "Bad Girls Club" is the worst song I've ever heard...it's almost as bad as the actual show. Born To Lead and Keep Holding On, are the ONLY songs worth listening to. I give this album a 4/10. If You like Blood On The Dance Floor, Get Scared, Vampires Everywhere! or Hollywood Undead, you might favor this album. Check em out.

Before You Fall

I personally, don't know TO much about this band. But, they are...terrible to say the least. -_- Before You Fall is the type of band that will probaly have you saying "Is this what's considered Metal or Hardcore nowadays?" Ugh, just your typical generic...whatevercore band with 1000 chugs and auto tuned choruses. The guitars riffs are plain boring, the singing is clearly auto tuned, and I hate the name of the EP I listened to for them called "You Look Better On Facebook"....I try not to judge a book by it's cover, but I DID suspect utter trash. If you like bands such as DevilDriver, As Lay Dying or Killswitch In Engage , you would probably wanna stay away from this band. If you're a fan of Capture The Crown, Sleeping With Sirens or Design The Skyline, then this band is for you, check em out.

An Honest Year

An Honest Year is a pop/rock band from Orlando, Florida. I think they're a pretty amazing band. They were on Warped Tour this year, and released their Extended Play "Moments" pretty recently. I'm not sure if the new bassist is in this picture, he left for creative differences says AnHonestYear. But they quickly bought in another member are still rocking on. Music Video will be below, these guys are awesome, check em out on Spotify.

dangerkids

I honestly don't know much about "dangerkids", but I gave these guys a listen...and I gotta say, "not bad at all". Their song "hostage" starts off with a rap intro that will automatically remind you of Linkin Park(Or at least their older albums). These guys mix catchy choruses, okay distorted vocals, and of course that modern hardcore sound. They were recently signed to "Rise Records" and their album "collapse" is planned to release in 9.17.30, check these guys out and enjoy the song below, or don't.~

The Color Morale

The Color Morale is a post-hardcore band from RockFord, Illinois. Let me tell you, these guys are truly an inspiration. First of all, lemme talk about their sound, if you're into bands like Misery Signals, Glassjaw, Of Mice & Men or even Emarosa, you'll like these guys. First of all Vocalist Garret Rapp is AMAZING, going from angelic voice to punishing fry vocals in second, the instruments are on point as well, brutal riffs into melodic chorus's and back again in mere seconds, these guys are truly masters of this genre. NOW, their lyrics are just as amazing, their new album "Know Hope" touches topics we can ALL relate to, from remembering things we aren't so proud of, keeping hope and faith in ourselves or anything else. Verse's like"Do you know how it feels to have your past sink it's teeth right into your back
Only to turn around and see yourself
Keep the hell away from me
The devil you know is better than the devil you don't
Keep the hell away from me" Lyrics like this speak to me personally. Check these guys out, trust me you won't regret it.

See The Rise

See The Rise is an upcoming Metalcore band from Twin Cites, Minnesota. I know what you're thinking, "Wow another metalcore band" but I can assure you, "See The Rise" is worth you time. See The Rise started in 2011 and released their debut EP "Out Of The Ordinary" making a name for themselves. Now in 2013 they've released a new EP called "The Theft" they're headlining shows and are playing shows in Warped Tour in the Minnesota Area. Check this guys out on Youtube, iTunes or Spotify.
